Julie Justus McGinity brings over 25 years of experience managing senior-level executive searches for government, non-profits and the private sector. Since launching her own business in 2012, she has partnered with mission-driven organizations to assist them with recruiting executives for leadership roles in California.
Unique in the executive search field because of the breadth of her network and search experience across sectors, Julie most recently managed senior-level assignments for California Charter Schools Association, Coro Southern California, Covered California, First 5 Association of California and First 5 LA.
Justus McGinity Executive Search offers full-cycle recruiting, and guides client Boards of Directors and senior management teams through executive management transitions. Julie consistently recommends a diverse panel of finalist candidates for assignments that range from general management to communications, government relations and external affairs. She creates project-based teams as needed and has long-standing relationships with associates to assist with research and candidate development.
Her varied career spans service on the senior staff of two California Governors, and several years with Los Angeles-based retained executive search firm, Berkhemer Clayton where she led project-based teams to assist clients with full-scale recruiting. She created and grew the firm’s Non-Profit Leadership practice specializing in working with non-profits, associations and grant-making foundations looking for new CEOs and senior leaders.
In state government, Julie led the gubernatorial appointments process and managed a team responsible for identifying and evaluating candidates for 800+ executive and senior management positions for the State of California. Her team also recruited and recommended to the Governor 2,000 Californians for membership on 275 part-time regulatory and advisory boards.
Julie serves on the Board of Friends of Senior & Scout Community Center, which has raised $7.2M through an innovative public-private partnership to build a new 7,000 square foot Community Center to house intergenerational programming in Manhattan Beach, CA. She also leads a church-based ministry to serve meals and distribute gently-used clothing in Watts, CA.
Julie previously served as Service Unit Manager of Girl Scouts of Manhattan Beach, and as a former board member the Vistamar School Parent Association, Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House, the Governor’s Advisory Committee on the Selection of the University of California Regents, and the Southern California division of Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership.
Julie earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Social Ecology from University of California, Irvine where she served as Student Body President and has been recognized as a Distinguish Alumna. She is a graduate of the Coro Foundation Public Affairs Fellows Program.
