YLP’s One Bag One Life Campaign - Act Locally to Eradicate Malaria Globally!
One Bag, One Life: Join IFA’s YLP Teens in Global Effort to Eradicate Malaria
Over the 2008 summer, inspired by the Tony Blair Faith Foundation by how simple it was to save a life, two teens from Sharon, MA, created the “One Bag, One Life” campaign. Leah and Andy developed an educational program, crafted the slogan, logo, and ordered 800 eco-friendly grocery bags on-line. After Andy returned to college, Leah teamed up with Shira Gorsky during her senior year in 2008-2009. The “One Bag, One Life” campaign caught the attention of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation! Now Jem and Miranda, Tony Blair Faiths Act Fellows, are here and will be partnering with Youth Leadership Program teens to continue the campaign.
The large attractive green eco-bags help the environment close to home. But more importantly, the profit from the sale of each $5.00 bag will help save a life. “Malaria is not a major threat in the United States, “says Andy, ” but it kills 1 million people each year, mostly in sub-Saharan Africa. What is shocking is that it is actually an easily treatable and preventable disease. Since malaria is transmitted through mosquito bites, the best way to combat this virus is to provide insecticide treated bed nets that can protect up to three people at once.”
